Cable exit is a mechanical part

The header is short; the IDC plug plus ribbon bend is not. Straight headers send the cable along the board normal; right-angle headers send it along the PCB — the usual choice in 1U and rear-I/O designs.

Straight (180°)

  • Easier to unplug from above.
  • Check lids and fan trays; a crushed ribbon is a hidden field failure.
  • Junjia 2.54mm straight types are common on industrial backplanes.

Right-angle (90°)

  • Enables a flat chassis with board-edge exit.
  • Leave a service pocket in front of the connector.
  • Right-angle pins apply more moment; support high pin-count parts.

45° SMT box headers exist for low THT-free profiles and need the same coplanarity discipline as SMT sockets. A chassis section in the RFQ prevents a second respin.
