Pin Header Dimensions: Pin Length, Insulator Height and Pin Diameter

Split the drawing into four groups

“2.54mm 10P header” is not a specification. A buildable drawing needs pitch, pin/row count, pin length (or solder tail + mating length), insulator height, pin section and mounting style.

What each dimension controls

DimensionTypical (2.54mm)Used for
Pitch2.54 / 2.00 / 1.27 / 1.00mmMating, IDC, pad centers
Pin sectionOften 0.64mm squareHole size, female cavity, current
Insulator heightFrom ~2.5mm, stackableKeep-out, grip, female match
Pin lengthCustom to board + fillet + engagementTHT protrusion, right-angle exit, SMT coplanarity

Footprint is more than a 2.54 grid

  • THT: finished hole ≈ pin + 0.10–0.20mm. Excess tail can hit the lid or the next board.
  • Right-angle: check 3D keep-outs and cable bend.
  • SMT: pads must cover the lead; pegs need NPTH; inspect coplanarity.

A complete RFQ line

Example: “2.54mm, 1×10P, 0.64mm square, insulator 2.5mm, mating 6.0mm, solder tail for 1.6mm PCB, straight, tin, tube.”

Junjia customizes pin length and insulator height. Send board thickness, the mating part and lid limit with the drawing.
