Appliances and Smart Home: Display, Power and Keypad Boards on Headers
Appliances mate once and stay
Washers, HVAC, cookers and filters split PSU, MCU, display/touch and radio boards. A display on the door and a control box a few centimetres away can use pin/female or Dupont; a hinge run wants wire-to-board or FFC. Gateways put Wi-Fi/Zigbee/Ethernet on a plug-in card for certification swaps. These ports are not field-mated, so tin is usually enough and cost is tighter than industrial.
Typical stacks
- Display into MCU: right-angle pin + straight socket; check the glass when the door shuts. Low insulator for shallow panels.
- PSU to MCU 5V/12V: paralleled 2.54mm pins; keep the header on SELV only.
- Key/knob daughter: 6–12P single row; a missing pin polarizes the lamp-drive nets.
- Wi-Fi module: follow the module pinout; SMT sockets for SMT lines; antennas win the height budget.
Versus LED luminaires
Driver-to-LED-board with a cable is usually a 2.00mm wafer harness so the line is not hand-soldered. Pin/female is for two boards that kiss with no wire. Dupont is not a production lamp loom.
Factory notes
- One-time build: tubes for THT, tape for SMT sockets.
- Grease and humidity in kitchens: qualify plating, not sample shine.
- Safety: keep headers off the primary; creepage blanks; silkscreen pin 1 for assembly.
Junjia appliance volume is 2.54/2.00mm and breakaway singles. Send panel depth, hinge or not, and secondary current so we pick a hard mate versus wire-to-board before a closing door bends pins.
