Ejector vs Box Header: Vibration, Shipping and Frequent Mating

Do not latch everything — and do not leave vibration to friction

A box header relies on shroud friction and the IDC’s own retention. That is enough for tied-down internal looms. Road transport, fans and weekly service will walk the plug off the pins.

Prefer a box header when

• Cost and height dominate, and the cable is strain-relieved.
• Long levers would hit the lid.
• The interface is assembled once for life.

Prefer an ejector header when

• Cabinets, servo drives or inverters see vibration.
• Field techs swap cables.
• The ribbon hangs and gravity unmates the plug.
