Whether a box header is right depends on the chassis section and mating rate. The three patterns below show up repeatedly in industrial, security and appliance products Junjia supports. Case 1 — industrial backplane / PLC

Board low in the cabinet, cable up into a duct, modest vibration, rare service. 2.54mm dual-row straight box headers (BAS-class) for GPIO, lamps and relay feedback; 16/20/26P are common. Road transport or a fan on the loom: same grid, ejector header, so “random drop-offs” are not a walking IDC.

Case 2 — security DVR / 1U host

Height is gone; the cable must exit the board edge to a front panel or HDD backplane. Right-angle box header, with a finger pocket. 2.00mm or 2.54mm from board width. Front-panel USB is a different connector; internal ribbons do not all need latches.

Case 3 — appliance control to display

One-time assembly, cost-sensitive, lid can crush a cable. A box header plus a tie is more stable than Dupont and safer than an open strip. Watch lid height; use a low shroud or 90° exit. Freeze conductor count and keying together — 16P to 20P mid-project is a tool and harness change.
